Beauty Products and Services review: A new journey awaits at The DRx Clinic - Review of DRx Consultation and Products (1)

1/02/2014

I believe that everyone on the journey to beautiful skin is no stranger to The DRx Clinic.
I have been pondering for the longest time if I should switch my current skincare regime to a specialized one. After years of trying counter products, being a beauty and skincare blogger may not be all that glamorous after all. I am not sure about others, but I will try the skincare products on my face if it feels alright, and not all products may be the best for me. Imagine the number of products and brands I have tried on!

Recently I visited Taiwan for a short holiday. It must be the weather that had taken a toll on my skin. My face began to have red patches and rashes. I have visited the GP twice and on each occasion I was prescribed different creams, both were useless, causing only more dryness and peeling. I was at the verge of crumbling. What's a beauty blogger who could no longer review beauty and skincare products?

To make matter worse, I tried on product Brand X and later almost my whole face turned red. The product must have aggravated my skin so much. I smacked on all sorts of moisturizing creams and Aloe Vera Gel but nothing seems to work anymore.

Finally I decided on DRx. After looking through fellow blogger's reviews and witnessing their skin improvements through their photos. I made a call. Its time to switch, and so I began my new journey with The DRx Clinc.

About The DRx Clinc

The DRx Clinic carries Derma-RX skincare products which are tailored for your skin needs. They cannot be purchased off pharmacy counters and it is recommended that you have a skin consultation with the clinic's doctors before they prescribe you with their products.

My main skin concerns are acne, pigmentation and freckles issue and the doctors at The DRx Clinic are very experienced in treating them. This is partly why I have decided to hook up with The DRx Clinic.

I will share with you more about the products in the later part of my post.

My first visit and consultation at The DRx Clinic - 27 December 2013

It is recommended that you call to make an appointment before you head down especially on a Friday because they are very very packed.

For your first visit, go to the registration counter and inform them that you have an appointment for your scheduled time. You will be provided with a form to fill up to let them understand more about your preference. Some questions include, your particulars, how would you prefer to be addressed and what kind of magazine you prefer at the waiting room. ( I only had sunscreen and moisturizer on me without any form of make-up, so please pardon my face. You can see the redness on my cheeks and nose.)

A brief outlook of the clinic before I went for my consultation. I was also brought around to visit the various areas and The DRx MediSpa at the opposite side of the clinic.

As it was post Christmas and before the New Year and on a Friday afternoon, the clinic was packed to the brim. I did not manage to take too many photographs as I do not wish to startle the customers. I'll leave you to explore the rest of the clinic when you are here.

My encounter with Dr Hui Yun

She is a very friendly and gentle lady who puts me at ease when talking to her. There were some confusion that someone had "imposed me" and taken my slot. We had a laugh over it before my consultation.

I thought that such an upscale clinic would have very arrogant doctors, but I was totally wrong. She speaks really fast maybe because our consultation was supposed to be only 10 minutes long, but I had no issues understanding her and she had provided me with all the answers which I needed.

Dr Hui Yun with her lighted magnifying glass, checking on my peeling red skin.

She kept asking if I used sunblock, maybe because of my horrible freckles and pigmentation which I told her was a major concern for me. She mentioned to tackle the skin redness first before we hit on the freckles and pigmentation issues as she was afraid that the redness will be aggravated with the use of the strong lighteners. We decided to review it two weeks later.

I like it that she provided me with options and her own opinions instead of just forcing the solution on me.

Spot Missy Lorna who is behind me, listening attentively to my conversation with Dr Hui Yun as she will be regurgitating the product usage instruction back to me later.

This tells me that I am in good hands! You can find out more about Dr Hui Yun here.

Next, I was taken by Missy Lorna to a photography room to take the photo of my face before using DRx product. This is for their filing and records, and will be kept strictly for their own use. This takes only about 5 minutes.

Missy Lorna then brings me to an area where she sits down with me to explain the use of each products, with steps written on a pamphlet for me so that I can refer to. She is very patient and detailed when doing the explanation, which I really appreciate.

After this I can proceed to wait for my products to be ready, collect my products, make my next appointment for two weeks later and head home.

The process was very well organized and a fuss free one. Everything went on smoothly and I was done in less than an hour. The ambiance was also quiet and the lights were bright, making the clinic look clean and welcoming.

The other side (Which i am looking at) brings you to the The DRx MediSpa. I shall review it another time if I have a chance to have some facial session with them.

My encounter with Derma-Rx (DRx Products)

Derma-Rx products which were prescribe to me according to my skin conditions, targets at my skin issues using their three step system of Prime, Remedy and Protect.

After 6 days of continuous usage, day and night.

Dr Hui Yun prescribed these products that did miracles to my face within a mere six days of usage.

Step-1:
[Prime] :
I was prescribed with Mild Cleanser & Milk Cleanser (1B)

The skin is prepared for treatment or nourishment. Cleansing and toning remove surface lipid film so that the skin is most receptive to the corrective or restorative agents to be applied next.

Facial Cleanser (mild)
*Full size*
*Please note that this is a full size product*
Dr Hui Yun prescribed me with a mild cleanser because she was afraid that the others would be too strong for me. This is a soap free cleanser. (product description not available)

Milk Cleanser
This is refreshing and gentle, most suited for make-up removal. It is an exfoliating cleanser for all skin types with natural botanical extracts, like papaya and Mulberry.
Soothes and lightens the skin, leaving it soft and velvety smooth.

I personally love the fragrance and favor milk based products. Dr Hui Yun explained that milk and oil cleansers works much better than water-based cleansers in removal of dirt on skin.

Step-2:
[Remedy]:
I was prescribed with Comedone Formula (CF), Hydrator (H) and 1/4 Bet Cream

Depending on the condition and severity, one or more products would be administered.

Comedone Formula
This is an award winning product for reducing appearance of comedones.

It contains botanical extracts, which work to reduce the appearance of comedones (white and blackheads) by dissolving and softening comedones and prevents new comedone formation by loosening the follicular plug and also by reducing sebaceous activity.

I was instructed to apply on my T-zone, avoiding my red patches. I like this product because it is gentle to my skin and seems to work well in controlling the formation of whiteheads. My chin area seems to slowly clear up.

Hydrator
This product act as a moisturizer to keep my skin firm and smooth.
It is a light moisturizing formula which contains Hyaluronic Acid and Green Tea extract to hydrate and condition the skin, while protecting collagen from being broken down. It further nourishes the skin to keep it supple, firm and smooth and is recommended for oily skin that is averse to traditionally rich moisturizers.

I was instructed to apply this all over my face especially on my nose and peeling skin. I like the smell of this product and find it very effective. Just one pump is required to hydrate the whole face. It works very well on my skin.

1/4 Bet Cream
This product is a strong steroid cream prescribed for clearing of redness and to heal my peeling skin. (Product description not available)

I was instructed to apply thinly on affected areas only.

Step-3:
[Protect]:
I was prescribed with Non-tinted Sunscreen (SPF30+)

The final step is the most important practice in basic skincare. Protecting your skin is the most effective way to prevent the onset and recurrence of skin ailments.

Non-Tinted Sunscreen

This is suitable for even children and infants for protection against harmful UV rays.
It is an advanced non-tinted formula which can prevent sunburn and photo-damage caused by UVA/UVB exposure. It is mild, therefore suitable for people like me with sensitive skin.

I was instructed to apply not one, but two layers of the sunscreen to protect myself against the UV rays. Although it is a little oily, it doesn't feels sticky and is quite comfortable on my skin. It doesn't have the typical sunblock smell.

It is recommended that you use a sunblock with an oily sheen and not matte sheen, those matte sheen sunblock are not effective. Do also apply sunblock around your eye areas.

I hope all readers have benefited from my sharing. Have a wonderful year ahead! Thank you Ms Brenda and Dr Hui Yun for granting this long-term sponsorship, you are the first and something which I really wanted for ages. You are my best Christmas and New Year present. I am truly blessed.

Dear readers, do keep following my DRx post as I will be heading back the The DRx clinic in two weeks time for a review of my skin condition. Till then....
